Am I The Only One

Who owns, like, forty Moleskines, because I start one, write diligently in it for a week, and then don’t look at it again for a few months, and think it’ll be messy to tear out the old pages? And weird to just start writing again as though there wasn’t a gap?

I should have a line item in my budget along the lines of “obsessive notebook purchasing.”

Anyway, people successfully writing in Moleskines make me feel unbelievably anxious and judged. I kind of hope they’re just writing their name plus their boyfriend’s surname over and over and over again.

Update: UGH, and I’m left-handed, right? So if I buy the nice soft pens, I have to write like I have a hideous crone-hand and then wait for everything to dry.

  2. fordxcore said: I am also a lefty who uses them thar fancy pens and I have no issue! I may, however, write on a very strange sort of angle by habit. (also lefties are the coolest, by far. High five!)
  3. myheartandmyskull said: I find some strange satisfaction in filling them. I’m not always a regular journaler, either. Sometimes there are significant gaps. Sometimes it takes years to fill ‘em up. Embrace the gaps! As long as you date your entries it’s totally fine.

  5. lonelyassassin said: I am also an unabashed notebook-abandoner, but I desperately want a Moleskine sketchbook. I haven’t been able to justify buying one yet, considering my sketches are hideous.
  6. marginalboredom said: I have a ton of those empty notebooks, because apparently every girl needs like 14 new diaries every birthday/Christmas/holiday. Also, I relate to the left-handed thing. Its worth it, though, because lefties are the coolest. (:
  7. whitewallz said: Yeah I have a few unused Moleskines. In fact, two are staring at me right now…judging me.
  8. farfromthepacific said: I do this all the time. My creative writing class is forcing me to use my moleskin more.
  9. mdt said: All of this is my life.
  10. katydidinoz said: I have self-esteem issues. I buy them, then think, ‘nothing I write is good enough for this pretty, pretty notebook’ :)
  11. ellebeauregard said: With you on all counts! So much pressure starting a new notebook! I have found a way to prevent left-hand-ink-smearing, though, by turning my notebook sideways (so my hand runs below the words instead of over them.) I look weird, but it’s worth it.

  13. elruidodeuntrueno said: Owned something like six, all empty… And I’d keep buying more. So no, you’re not alone there.
  14. momo2 said: No, you are not alone! And I don’t limit myself to Moleskines; I’m an equal opportunity notebook abandoner, and I feel guilty about all of them without favoritism.
