It may seem overly pat to respond to the notion of an omnipotent and benevolent deity who cares about you with ‘but what about the starving Africans?’ but the question remains:
‘WHAT about the starving Africans?’
And don’t bring that weak-ass free will shit into my house. Why would God have BOTHERED to start the whole thing rolling? Millennia of child rape and bloodshed and cruelty and floods and fires and John Boehner? So that a handful of 21st century residents of the first world might have football and agave nectar?
And BEFORE we get all, ‘yes, but Jesus had great ideas,’ may I remind you that Jesus said the single most dangerous thing ever said?
‘The poor you shall always have with you.’
Oh. Well, then. Let’s put a lot of gold leaf paint in the Vatican, because the poor are here to stay.
